Blues Guitar Intensive with Mike Stockbridge For many guitar enthusiasts the blues can provide a fun and satisfying outlet for their creativity. Today the word blues covers a wide range of unique styles that follow a specific form. Furthermore, the vocabulary for improvising in the blues can be used in a wide variety of contexts.

In this seminar we will discuss how to familiarize yourself with the nuances of the blues. From understanding the form of the music, to use of relevant scales and techniques, to essential listening as well as playing with others; all will be discussed in depth.

If you are a die hard blues guitar enthusiast, budding improviser, or just want to gain new experience with a different style of music, then this seminar is for you.

Mike Stockbridge is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and music educator based in Concord, NH. He attended Berklee College of Music and the University of Maine. He performs regularly throughout New England.

Mike's guitar work has been featured on radio shows in France, Portugal, Macedonia, and other parts of Europe. Mike has recorded with or performed live and in clinic with a diverse group of musicians including: 2007 NEA jazz master Toshiko Akiyoshi, San Francisco based percussionist Alex Vittum, Thelonius Monk Inst./BMI composer of the year winner Steve Grover, Clarinetist Brad Terry and guitarist Tony Gaboury, to name just a few. In 2009 he released his first full length, self-titled album as a bandleader which has been met with many positive reviews; proving that Mike Stockbridge as a guitarist is a uniquely fresh voice in the New England jazz scene. As he moves into 2014 Mike Stockbridge is poised to release his third album of original music.

An educator in high demand with over a decade of experience, Mike currently teaches multiple instruments at his own studio in North Conway, NH, the Robert Frost Charter School, North Conway, NH, and Dreamsicle Arts, Pembroke, NH,. He has been affiliated with many great educational programs - most notably the Tony Boffa School of Contemporary Music located in Westbrook ME, and the National Guitar/Music Workshop in Litchfield CT.

ADAM FALCON
Saturday
October 4th

Adam Falcon

ROCK-INFUSED FUNK with a 70s FLAIR! We are excited to have ADAM FALCON back for a full night of music this time!  Adam joined us as a panelist and performer this spring at the Shire Vocal Summit and we had so many people ask for him to come back for a full show.  We are pleased to announce that he will be here on Saturday, October 4!

A native New Yorker, Adam hit the city’s music scene at the young age of 16, with a band that had already garnered a recording contract with Atlantic Records.  But it was while working as a Broadway pit musician, that chance led Adam to meet Rick James.  From that meeting, the Grammy award winning James invited Falcon to a recording session at Atlantic Studios.  There, James was working on a duet with Chaka Khan, which was being produced by the legendary Arif Mardin.  Mardin and Falcon both shared an acquaintance with George Benson. On an album that Mardin was set to produce, Falcon was asked to contribute a song for singer and guitar virtuoso George Benson to record.  Not only did Faclon write the composition, he arranged and played on that track as well. That song is “In Search Of A Dream” from the George Benson Grammy nominated album “In Your Eyes”.  Soon after writing this hit, famed record producer Tommy Lipuma asked Falcon to repeat his magic for Benson a second time.  Out of Prince’s Paisley Park Studio came Falcon’s sophomore hit for Benson “True Blue”, from the album “That’s Right.”  Adam went on to be one of New York City’s most sought after session and touring guitarists. He wound up working with Phyllis Hyman, Will Downing, Jonathan Butler, Sophie B. Hawkins, Roberta Flack, George Benson, Arif Mardin, and Robert Palmer to name a few.
Adam always knew that at some point he was destined to follow his own art, so he stepped away from the side man role and now, with his highly anticipated release, Bohemian 959, Adam has found his true artistic voice.  The album captures the true pulse of New York City, back from a day that inspired Adam to pick up an instrument in the first place. “The type of sound that I was going for was a live sound with an old school feel.  Like what you hear in the streets of NY.  Each song has its own message and story.  If you thread the entire record together you'd find a positive note.  I'd like people to come away with nothing more than that, without trying to get to heavy or esoteric.”
“ADAM FALCON’S ROCK-INFUSED FUNK AND PURE, SOULFUL VOICE RECALL THE MOST HONEST OF ’70S RHYTHM & BLUES, RECALLING THE BEST OF SHUGGIE OTIS, CURTIS MAYFIELD, AND MARVIN GAYE.”JAZZIZ Magazine
